Write a Letter – Change a Life

Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10—the day in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: a milestone document proclaiming the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

In celebration of Human Rights Day, Amnesty International (AI), a global grassroots human rights movement, publishes cases of people whose rights are being challenged. Through research, publicity and mobilization AI works on behalf of people who have been wrongfully imprisoned because of who they are, what they said or what they believe.

In honor of the divinity and dignity in each person, we encourage you to celebrate Human Rights Day and write a letter, or a few, on behalf of a prisoner of conscience and one of solidarity to a prisoner or a family member. Here’s a link to six cases researched and prepared by AI: https://write.amnestyusa.org/ where you can access sample letters and read success stories from previous years.

The Kinship activity inspires people to work together to serve those in need. Our beloved Noor Inayat Khan sacrificed her life supporting individual liberty. Remember her as you write. Our actions makes a difference.
